Dear Colleagues,
The United Board is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2019 Intensive English Language Program (IELP). The seven-week program will run from July 1– August 16, 2019, and will be administered by the Miriam College,Manila, Philippines.
This program is designed to help faculty members or administrative staff with lower-intermediate to intermediate level of English. It aims to improve their English language proficiency in academic and professional settings, and advance their listening, speaking, writing and reading skills. An additional IELP for more advanced English proficiency level (intermediate to higher-intermediate) will be offered at a later date. Further updates will be available atwww.unitedboard.org.
Miriam (formerly Maryknoll) College is a premier women's college in the Philippines founded in 1926. It offers programs at the basic, tertiary, post-graduate, and adult education levels. The institution supports specialized centers engaged in curriculum development, research, community outreach, and advocacy in the fields of peace education, environmental studies, and women’s empowerment. Scholarship Coverage
Successful applicants will be entitled to a scholarship which will include:
- Tuition
- Room and board for the duration of the program (double-occupancy)
- Economy class round-trip airfare for the duration of the program^
*This scholarship does not cover expenses for passport and visa application, visa extension, ground transportation, as well as medical or travel insurance. Participants and/or the home institutions shall fully shoulder these expenses. Medical expenses can be high. The United Board is not responsible for any medical costs and will not be liable for any expense should a participant fail to obtain insurance for travel or for any pre-existing conditions.
^Participants will receive an airfare reimbursement up to US$650. We advise the participants to look for the most economical round-trip air tickets. Participants shall petition to the home institution for support before requesting additional travel allowance from the United Board if the airfare exceeds the reimbursable amount.
Eligibility
- Under 40 years old at the time of application
- Currently employed full-time at one of the United Board network institutions
- In good health condition and physically able to participate (participants may be asked to provide a medical certificate prior to enrollment)
- Have adequate English level to function in a classroom setting. This will be an equivalent of a TOEFL score of 450 or an IELTS level of 3.5 – 4.5

- Endorsement letter from the head of the institution or senior management
- Resume
- Certificate/Proof of previous English training or testing, if any
